Since the introduction of comedy in Liberia, it have been an instrument use to ease stress and a medium used to pass on moral lesson in a humorous way. If I'm to define Comedy, I'd say comedy is a screenplay or joke that helps me cope with the difficulties of living. I know this definition needs lot of explanation but for me that's it. The likes of Karmo Soko, George Tamba Boutini and the others did a great jobs in making the way for their forgangers. Funnily, I wasn't familiar to the name Comedy when I was a kid lol. All I knew was funny jokes(when I hear it from someone mouth)/funny show (whenever I watched it on the TV). Sky TV and Real TV was always there to deliver during the weekend. I'm not ashamed about the fact that I tagged every radio station as UNMIL Radio lol. I didn't even knew the difference and to add to it I never care about the frequency. Is either Boutini is on radio cracking jokes or I'm not listening. Wah I kamin listen to musics on lah radio when dey wor having entertainment canter near my pa cookbow shop in Freeport lol.
Things gradually took shapes during the outbreak of the deadly Ebola Virus, which took the lives of millions around the world. Though it was a difficult time for us, few took the advantage to explore their talents and lessened our sorrow. John Flomo, Wedigar, Killer Bean, Bookman, Lib Jalloh, Joseph Dean, Paul Flomo amongst other were in readiness to ensure we laught hard whenever our screen is on or turn on our radio. Since the Ebola Outbreak comedy have transform for the better and it is becoming more influential in Liberia as the newbies are exploring it to the fullest. It even got better during and after the Pandemic. While we were in the boring lockdown, they made used of YouTube and other social media platforms to ensure we got through it . Future Doe, Nyafour, Don Worry, Mary Love, Baboon Koto,Ezy Pain and the list goes on and on.....
Fast forward, the new generation is getting more ambitious about this field of Entertainment. There are making use of every platforms bringing contents well script enough to brand that's sector (Comedy). The newbies are absolutely talented. Ma Kaka Son, EKJ the comedian, Jonabeth the comedian, Donor DC, Keyshia, Mel Ody, Abas the comedian, jonabeth the comedian....... Unarguably these newbies are on a whole new level of transforming comedy In the land of liberty, Liberia.
